Women’s Arts Association’s 2007 community arts project, Journals, ran a series of creative workshops across Cardiff in which women recorded, through a variety of art forms, their daily experiences, memories and dreams.
The aim of the project was to provide time for women from all walks of life to focus on themselves and on each other through creative activity. The workshops were free to attend and held in accessible local buildings, with provision of crèche facilities, translators and refreshments.
The workshops were delivered by professional arts practitioners:
Susan Richardson - creative writer and poet
Ellie Reynish - visual artist
Jane Taylor - print maker
Aimee Timms - filmmaker
The Association worked in partnership with Disability Arts Cymru, the South Riverside Community Development Centre and Communities First, to deliver workshops in Canton, Ely, Riverside and Butetown.
Following the success of the exhibition at The Butetown History and Arts Centre, the collection of journals, short films, group poetry and prints were available to view at St Fagans National History Museum, Cardiff from December 2007 – April 2008.
