Creative Imprints 2009

"It wasn’t just plain sailing to attend the sessions. A lot of things happened inside myself. I am glad I had my friend to talk things over. But I definitely feel that I have changed and moved forward because of this project." – participant, Riverside Warehouse

Creative Imprints – an exciting 6-month community arts project launched in April 2009, delivered lively printing workshops for women in Cardiff and Barry. Artist Susan Joshi, introduced various printing techniques such as mono, lino and collage to groups at Riverside Warehouse, Womens Workshop in Cardiff and Gibbonsdown Childrens Centre in Barry. The project culminated in a two – week community arts exhibition, at Arts Central, a professional gallery space in central Barry funded by Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The exhibition hosted a series of public workshops, where visitors were invited to learn printing techniques taught during the project and create their own work of art to take home or display alongside the groups prints.

Majority of the women involved in the project were new to printing and the arts and found the project to be both challenging and rewarding. As a result of the project they have each created an impressive collection of prints, and took part in a public event and inspired others in the process.

A showcase of artwork was viewed on BBC Screen in Central Cardiff and Swansea for the duration of the show.

A clip of the slideshow can be viewed on the Exhibitions page.
