Following the success of the Journals project, Womens Arts Association launched Postcards From Home in January 2008, a twelve-month community arts project delivering creative workshops for women across Cardiff.

The project provided women the opportunity to create a collection of artwork for exhibition in response to a sense of place; this could include themes such as home life, local neighbourhoods, the city, an imaginary place or a location from memory.

With the support and guidance of professional artists, Holly Davey, Judy Foote and Becky Adams, groups participated in a range of visual art workshops covering techniques such as collage, textiles, photography, and vinyl.

Workshop activities were designed to give an introduction to the visual arts as well as incorporate the interests of participating groups. The sessions ran weekly over a period of 15 weeks, were free to attend and held in accessible buildings, with provision of crèche facilities, translators and refreshments.

Through funding from Community First Fund and Arts Council Wales we were able to deliver the Postcards From home workshops in the most disadvantaged communities across Cardiff with the intention to support local residents in engaging in the visual arts and creatively responding to their surroundings.

We partnered up with Women Connect First, Workers Education Authority, Butetown Community Centre, Shire Newton Gypsy Travelers Site and St Mellons Community and Education Centre to provide art workshops to local residents and service users.
